378 smoking lounges approved so far

Macau’s Health Bureau (SSM) has reportedly received a total of 505 smoking lounge applications to date - coming from 34 out of 47 casinos in the gaming hub, local media reports.

According to the SSM, approval has already been issued for 378 of the smoking lounges, but unprocessed applications remain due to applicants’ failure to submit the required documents, incompletion of fire testing, or failing to make improvements in line with fire safety codes.

SSM said that some applicants have also canceled their applications.

Starting from January 1, Macau has enacted a complete ban on smoking in most public spaces, including mass market gaming floors of casinos.

Analysts have warned that the ban on smoking would dampen 2019 GGR.
