POGO demand continues to drive Manila office rents

Demand from Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) continues to fuel demand for rentals in Metro Manila, according to a report from Lamudi and real estate firm Jones Lang LaSalle.

Continuing demand comes despite mounting government scrutiny on workers in the sector on concern many Chinese are working illegally and may not be paying taxes.

Rentals to the sector were up 27 percent, the report said.

"The influx of investors from mainland China, especially those involved in POGOs, has contributed to the growth of commercial office activities in both ParaƱaque City and the Bay Area," the report said.

Lamudi said POGOs and BPOs often place their headquarters within information technology centers or buildings accredited Philippine Economic Zone Authority. That way, they can avail of tax perks offered by the government.
