MGM China’s new project on Cotai may be facing a “slight” delay and labor could be an issue, co-Chair Pansy Ho Chiu-king was cited as saying.
The $2.6 billion resort is scheduled to open in 2016.
She said the company is eager to finish the project as soon as possible, but it may face a delay. She gave no further details.
Commenting on the recent labor protests by casino employees seeking better pay and conditions, Ho said that a company can only improve conditions for its workers if the company also performs better.
“Employers and employees rely upon each other. I believe this philosophy is understandable to everyone,” she was cited as saying. “I sincerely hope that on that basis both employers and employees are heading in the same direction and have the same objective. We’re now evaluating the positions of all parties and making general arrangements. I believe the issues will be resolved.”
