Offshore casinos allowed to remain on River Mandovi to end of March 2021

The state government of Goa has extended permission for its offshore casinos to remain on the River Mandovi until March 31, 2021.

There are six offshore casinos on the river: MV Horseshoe Casino, MV Pride of Goa, MV Casino Royale, MV Argosy IV, MV Royale Flotel, and MV Lucky.

While the government decided as early as 2013 to relocate these casinos, it has never been able to find an alternative location, and so there have been serial short-term extensions since March 2014, including the new one.

However, all six casinos have not been able to operate since March due to Covid-19 related restrictions.

The casino license issued under the Goa Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act to MV Horseshoe Casino expired in August 2018, though the renewal process is underway. One of the other casinos will see its license period end next year, and the other four are licensed until 2023.
