Abandoned casino vessel towed away

Casino vessel MV Leela, owned by Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd., was towed away from its site on the Mandovi river in Goa, India, by the ports administration department to a dock in the Zuari river.
MV Leela had ceased operations two years ago and just had five staff manning it according to the minimum requirements.  The tourism department had been issuing notices to the boat's owners since January 2013, claiming that it was creating safety problems in the area in which it was abandoned.  The company, owned by former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda, owed 11.5 crore for two year's worth of license fees and failed to respond to any of the tourism department's notices.
