Accused match fixer denied bail

A Malaysian man accused of fixing five football matches in the semi professional Victorian Premier League, Segaran "Gerry" Gsubramaniam, has been refused bail by Melbourne Magistrates court.  Gsubramaniam is charged with five counts 

of engaging in conduct that corrupts or could corrupt the outcome of a betting event and five charges of facilitating conduct that corrupts or could corrupt the outcome of a betting event.  The argument for refusing bail was that Gsubramaniam was at risk of leaving the country since he was in Australia on a tourist visa.  It could be two years before his court case is finalized.
