ACMA lowers the boom on two gambling websites

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has made Emu Casino and Fair Go Casino the first targets of its crackdown on online gambling.

ACMA Chair Nerida O'Loughlin explained, “Emu Casino and Fair Go Casino are illegal sites that target Australians. They're happy to take your money when you lose, but people have reported to us that they refuse to pay out winnings."

Communications Minister Paul Fletcher added, “Illegal gambling websites are preying on Australians and can have devastating effects on people's lives.”

The government estimates that Australians spend up to A$400 million (about US$270 million) on illegal offshore gambling websites per year.

“Blocking access to websites sends a strong message that the ACMA can and will take action to stop illegal operators from targeting vulnerable Australians,” O'Loughlin declared.

More than 65 illegal companies have pulled out of the Australian market since 2017 when ACMA started enforcing new illegal offshore gambling rules.
