ACMA has pulled 218 illegal gambling services out of the Australian market since 2017

The Australian regulator has successfully removed more than 218 illegal services from the Australian market since the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) began enforcing new rules against offshore gambling in 2017, according to official data.
Furthermore, since the ACMA made its first blocking request in November 2019, it has managed to block 863 illegal gambling and affiliate websites.The ACMA has issued a new press release, highlighting that the regulator has requested Australian internet service providers (ISPs) to block additional illegal offshore gambling websites. This decision comes after investigations revealed that two services were operating in violation of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. The websites in question, Wildblaster and BetUS, were found to be in breach of the act.
Website blocking is just one of the enforcement options aimed at protecting Australians from illegal gambling services. This action can be taken if a service is:
- Providing prohibited interactive gambling services to customers in Australia, such as online casinos, online slot machines, and services that allow in-play online sports betting.
- Offering an unlicensed, regulated interactive gambling service to customers in Australia, such as online betting services lacking a valid Australian license.
- Publishing advertisements for prohibited interactive gambling services or unlicensed, regulated interactive gambling services in Australia.
