AIGF demands probe on illegal foreign betting websites

The All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding action be taken against offshore betting websites that have been accepting bets from India, Glaws reports.

In its letter, the AIGF told the Prime Minister that many online gambling and betting websites have been openly accepting players from India through e-wallets, agents and hawala transactions, resulting in citizens being lured to the addiction of gambling.

AIGF said the online gambling websites pose a national security threat as money from Indian citizens are sent outside the country through illegal means and may be used for financing undesirable and illegal activities.

The industry body has asked the central government to block the foreign websites under the Information Technology Act and Rules and has asked the Prime Minister to direct the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to conduct a comprehensive probe against the offshore gambling websites for violating anti-money laundering and foreign exchange laws.

Websites named by AIGF includes 1xbet, Jeetwin, BetRally, and Bet365.
