AirAsia pushes for travel bubble with Thailand

AirAsia would like Macau to negotiate a “travel bubble” with Thailand, as the Covid-19 situation has stabilised in both countries, TDM reports.

AirAsia CEO Celia Lao Sio Wun also said the low-cost airline was ready to resume its flights between Macau and Thailand “at any moment.”

“These countries then go on to re-establish connections between them by opening up borders and allowing people to travel freely within the zone without having the need to undergo on-arrival quarantine,” Lao said, commenting on the concept of “travel bubbles.”

Macau received about 150,000 visitors from Thailand in 2019.

Last week, authorities announced that China would begin issuing individual visit scheme visas for Guangdong province from August 26th and for the whole of China by Sept. 23, which is forecast to provide a major boost for the recovery of gross gambling revenue.
