Another plaintiff stakes claim to IPI funds

Another plaintiff is asking the court to enforce a settlement awarded against Imperial Pacific International, saying it has violated the terms of an initial agreement.

Engineering firm, Geo Testing, had sued the casino operator for $454,934.33 in damages and interest. However, a lesser sum was agreed upon, together with monthly instalments.

The Saipan Tribune reports that Geo Testing claims that so far only one instalment of $50,000 was paid in March and a second in April was not met.

Timothy Bellas, a lawyer for Geo Testing, said this was the second attempt to enforce the settlement agreement that was initially reached in June, 2019.

Bellas said the unpaid balance under the settlement agreement was $129,034.73, which includes interest.

The operator is also facing pressure to pay damages under a lawsuit to contractor, Pacific Rim, while the tax department of the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands is claiming $9.4 million in unpaid taxes. In addition, IPI is also under pressure to pay its annual casino license of $15.5 million.
