A new consortium has been formed between Hong Kong businessman Tony Fung and two Chinese development companies who are reportedly willing to finance Aquis’ proposed $8.15 billion Aquis Great Barrier Reef Resort, local media reports.

The alliance, formed with Chinese developer Tandellen and CCCC International Holding Limited (CCCCI) are an important milestone for Aquis’ Queensland ambitions said a Aquis spokesperson. The Great Barrier Reef Resort proposal, includes 7500 hotel rooms, a convention and exhibition centre, theatres, a golf course, an artificial lake and a lagoon.

“Together we have the financial and operational capacity to undertake multiple projects in multiple locations,” said the Aquis spokesperson. “Our focus will remain on the tourist destinations of Cairns and Gold Coast, and we look forward to making further announcements in the future.”
