Aquis Entertainment loses director as HK lockdown makes involvement challenging

Australia-listed Aquis Entertainment, owner and operator of Casino Canberra, has announced the “regrettable” retirement of its non-executive director Alex Chow, as the continued lockdown in Hong Kong has made it difficult for him to stay involved in the company.
According to a filing from Aquis to the Australian Stock Exchange, Chow has served as a non-executive director since 2015. His retirement, effective immediately, comes as the lockdowns in Hong Kong is “proving increasingly difficult for Mr Chow to manage his desired level of involvement with the group via technological means.”
Aquis Chairman Russell Sheilds said “while I am sorry to see Alex go, I can certainly sympathize with the technological challenges he has been experiencing. Alex’s input over the years has been very valuable, we have been through some interesting times together as a result of Covid-19 and I wish him all the very best for the future.”
Earlier this year, Aquis reported a 71 percent fall in 2021 profit but said it was optimistic about the future outlook and will pick up its plans for its future development as the Omicron wave eases. Aquis had said in March last year that it was planning to restart talks on the redevelopment of the casino before being forced to pause again on the next Covid wave.
