Aristocrat Leisure 2014 profit gains 10.2 percent

Aristocrat Leisure said its fiscal 2014 normalized profit after tax gained 10.2 percent, though said fewer game releases in Japan held back its performance.

The group had NPAT of $118.1 million ($102 million). Earnings per share rose 6.7 percent to 20.7 cents.

Revenue rose 6.9 percent to $870.3 million, though excluding Japan revenue was up 13 percent. On a net basis, the group reported a loss of $16.4 million due to a charge on the sale of its lotteries business.

Aristocrat said it had gained market share in the North American gaming operations segment as well as expanding market share in outright sales in North America and Australia. However, it said overall the outright sales segment in North America had contracted.

The company said it increased its installed base in North America by 20 percent to 9,071 units.

In Japan however, the pachislot business saw a 6.2 percent decline to 1.3 million units shipped. The company said it had released just one new title in the reporting period, compared with two in the prior year.

Changing regulations there are causing suppliers to rework games, which has delayed the release of the company’s Black Lagoon 2 game, it said.

Digital revenues were particularly strong, gaining four fold from the prior year to $47.5 million.
