Australian government likely to refuse liberalization of in-play betting

The Australian Federal Government is likely to be disinclined to the opening up of in-play gambling in the country, local media reports, reveals The Herald Sun.

Although the Government’s response to the former NSW premier Barry O’Farrell’s review of the online wagering industry is still being finalized, operators believe the Government has already made its decision.

Additionally, a national self-exclusion scheme will be introduced as part of a number of measures to protect the consumer. Currently, punters who opt to be self excluded from one betting site is still able to bet on others. The new self-exclusion scheme will see the punter excluded from all betting sites in Australia.

Human Services Minister Alan Tudge is reportedly due to brief Coalition MPs today about the Government’s planned response.
