Australian opposition pledges to cut federal gambling role

The opposition Liberal/National coalition said that it would abolish Australia's national gambling regulator if it wins next month's election and replace it with a council of industry representatives. The coalition said it would also halt a trial program in Canberra under which gamblers are required to agree to a preset limit on their gambling machine losses. Its platform would also ban the extension of credit to online gambling.
