Australia’s Jupiters Hotel & Casino completes first step in $345m upgrade

Jupiters Hotel & Casino in the Australian state of Queensland has opened a new pool and facilities as the first stage in a $345 million ($285 million) revamp.

The pool was designed by Surfers Paradise firm DBI Designs.

“With the poolside experience now complete, we are well on track to meet our redevelopment timeline and create a world-class integrated resort for the Gold Coast,” Jupiters Managing Director Geoff Hogg said. .

The redevelopment of the property includes a new exterior look and two new restaurants - Japanese restaurant and bar Kiyomi and Italian restaurant Cucina Vivo.

When complete, the redevelopment will include a six-star luxury hotel tower and an array of contemporary bars and restaurants.

The Jupiters’ upgrade comes as Queensland gears up for more competition in its casino market. The government is offering three new licenses -- two regionally and one in downtown Brisbane -- to boost tourism revenue.

The proposed new resorts include a more than $8 billion-dollar luxury property near Cairns planned by Hong Kong billionaire Tony Fung’s Aquis Group and the China-backed ASF Consortium, which wants to build a $7.5 billion resort on the Gold Coast.
