Authorities arrest 81 illegal workers

81 Chinese nationals were arrested on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in illegal gambling operations, local media reports.

At least four of the fugitives are facing cyber fraud charges in China, while the remaining 77 failed to produce immigration documents when asked.

“Several names that were provided by the Chinese embassy matched the identities that were also present in that area which is why automatically we apprehended them. The others failed to present any immigration document when they were required to do so,” said Bureau of Immigration Chief of Fugitive Search Unit Bobby Raquepo.

The Chinese nationals have been brought to the office of the Bureau of Immigation for further investigation.

Philippine Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente told CA that the arrest came after a tip off from the Chinese embassy in the Philippines.
