Average occupancy rate up in June

Macau’s hotel operators saw the average occupancy rate of local hotels up 2.9 percent year-on-year to 83.6 percent in June - the first year-on-year growth since the start of 2015.

According to data from the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), June’s average hotel occupancy rate was 2.3 percent higher than the preceding month, which was 81.3 percent.

The jump was attributed to hotels in the 3 to 5 star range, which all saw growth in the month.

According to the data, 4-star and 3-star hotels saw the highest year-on-year jump in June, at 5.7 and 7.4 percentage points respectively, while 5-star hotels increased by 3.4 percent.

The increase in occupancy rate may be as a result of room rates, which saw the average cost of rooms fall to MOP1,263 (US$158.1) per night in June, down 7.9 percent year-on-year.
