Banyan Tree seeks Vietnam casino license

Banyan Tree Holdings is seeking a license for a casino at its Laguna Lang Co resort in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, VietnamNet reported.

Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee was cited as saying that the province supports the application as it would benefit both the locality and the developer. However, he added that the Singaporean company will need to wait for the Ministry of Finance to complete the nation’s first legal framework for casino businesses.

Laguna Lang Co opened in March last year and includes the Banyan Tree and Angsana branded hotels and spas, an 18-hole championship golf course, private villas and residences, the report said.

Australia-listed Donaco opened its five-star luxury casino resort in northern Vietnam in May this year and has reported brisk revenue from Chinese VIP visitors. Locals are banned from gambling in the country.
