Barcelona entertainment complex to be scaled down

Barcelona entertainment complex previously known as BCN World, will be scaled down and feature fewer casinos and hotels than originally planned.

According to the Vice President of Catalonia Oriol Junqueras, quoted by local media, the entertainment complex in the area of Salou and Vila-seca will be less ambitious than previously planned, with construction to begin again in mid-2017.

The new project, titled “Tourist and Recreation Complex” is said to have only 4 percent of space dedicated to gaming - 30,000 square meters out of a total of 750,000 square meters, much lower than originally projected.

The resort license is expected to see a joint bid by Hard Rock Melco and Grup Peralada, with 10,000 jobs to be created when fully operational.

Catalan Vice President and Catalan Minister for Economy, Oriol Junqueras said the revamped project is more realistic and will be sustainable, and will be able to integrate into the environment.

“This is a worthy project; it generates important investment, is more realistic that the previous ones and more integrated from an urban policy and social perspective”, stated Junqueras.
