Bombay High Court backs Dream 11

The Bombay High Court has backed Dream 11 in arguing that fantasy sports are a game of skill and therefore not gambling, dismissing a public interest litigation attempt brought by an anti gambling activist.

The public interest advocate, Gurdeep Singh Sachar, had also claimed that Dream11 was evading General Sales Tax (GST), according to website

The justices found that the petitioner’s attempt to reopen issues already decided by the Supreme Court was wholly “misconceived,” the website reports.

“It can be seen that success in Dream 11’s fantasy sports depends on user’s exercise of skill based on superior knowledge, judgement and attention and the result thereof is not dependent on the winning or losing of the real world team in a particular game on a particular day. It is undoubtedly a game of skill and not a game of chance,” the court ruled.

Being as the company is not involved in gambling, the GST issue is not applicable, LiveLaw adds.
