Brazilian Senate approves gambling legalization on first vote

Brazil’s Special Commission of National Development (CEDN) on the first vote has approved the Senate Bill regulating the operation of gambling in Brazil.

The version approved by the Brazilian Senate includes an amendment that only authorizes gambling companies that prove tax compliance, in addition to other requirements.

Some senators opposed the approval of the bill, arguing that gambling could cover up illegal practices related to drugs and prostitution.

Despite this, the bill had 8 votes in favor and 2 against, as well as one abstention.

There will be another round of voting next week, however, those close to the action say the result will not likely differ.
