Caesars talks responsible gaming in Tokyo

Caesars Entertainment on Wednesday hosted an event at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo titled “Media Roundtable on Responsible Gaming in Japan.”

From the operator’s side the main speaker was Jan Jones Blackhurst, Caesars’ executive vice-president for public policy and corporate responsibility.

Blackhurst, who is also a former two-term mayor of Las Vegas, explained to AGB: “We wanted the care providers to be aware of the research, data, experts, and programs we have access to and our willingness to work with health agencies to make treatment for disordered gamblers more widely available in Japan.”

She added, “We also wanted to educate interested press about both the realities and myths around addiction and to introduce them to our responsible gambling protocols, research, and data from other countries on prevalence and training protocols.”

The main guest and speaker from the Japanese side was Noriko Tanaka, president of The Society Concerned About Gambling Addiction, who told AGB, “My impression is that even such efforts by Caesars will be difficult to realize in the IR Implementation Law. It is necessary that the operators make Japanese bureaucrats understand the necessity of gambling addiction countermeasures.”

The event also featured Jennifer Shatley, a specialist on responsible gaming policy and a former executive at Caesars Entertainment.
