Cambodia starts the year with 72 arrests on gambling crackdown

Authorities in Cambodia have launched numerous operations to crack down on gambling, resulting in 53 criminal cases and 72 arrests across the country in the first month of the year.
According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, the country’s National Police carried out raids across 53 locations in 15 capitals and provinces. The measures yielded a total of 72 arrests in 29 different locations, with three individuals detained for running an online gambling business in one location, and 69 suspects arrested for local gambling activities in 28 locations.
Crackdowns in 24 other locations led to 49 people being detained, with authorities implementing educational measures and contracts to stop the activities rather than sending the individuals to court. Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Cambodia
Touch Sokhak, Deputy Spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, said that the country's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sar Sokha, has made cracking down on gambling one of his six priorities. As a result, authorities under the seventh legislature of the Royal Government, led by Dr. Hun Manet - Prime Minister of Cambodia, are now paying special attention to this kind of activity with a view to combat it effectively.
