Cambodian police take down Chinese-led gambling ring

25 Chinese nationals are set to be deported from Cambodia after a raid on Friday at a villa in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district.

Police were reportedly tipped off that Chinese nationals residing in the villa were in the country illegally, however the raids uncovered evidence of the provision of illegal online sports betting, baccarat, roulette and lottery games.

While 22 members of the group possessed valid visas, none had work permits, said General Uk Heisela, chief investigator at the ministry’s Immigration Department, adding that all 25 will be deported “soon.”

Earlier this year, over 20 South Koreans were arrested for allegedly operating an online gambling website in the country.

Raids were conducted on two villas in the northwestern outskirts of Phnom Penh, with computers and other equipment seized along with the suspects.
