Candolim officials reject casino plans

Local officials from the village of Candolim have rejected plans for a land-based casino at a five-star hotel at Annavaddo, Candolim.

Speaking to Times of India, Candolim village head Blaize Fernandes said that the government had adopted a resolution around three years ago not to permit any casinos and spas in the village as they are "dens for vices".

Fernandes said they did not want another hotel in Candolim, and was already fighting to shut down the one that is operating.

“We don't want the casino culture in Candolim because it's not good," he said.

Fernandes said he was made aware of the casino plans after seeing recruitment advertisements in newspapers.

The venue however currently has not installed any gambling machines.
