Casinos are ‘fait accompli’ of government: Parrikar

Union Defence Minister and former Chief Minister of Goa, Manohar Parrikar has ruled out the removal of casinos, saying they are 'fait accompli' of the Goa government.

Addressing a group of core party workers in Panaji on Saturday in the presence of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, he said even though the BJP party had opposed casinos in 2007, the Congress government gave six licences.

“We had opposed casinos in the year 2007, but Congress gave six licences and made casinos fait accompli of the government that we formed in the year 2012,” he said, quoted by local news outlet Indian Express.

“When someone invests in the business and if we stop the business then investment don’t come,” he said.

Last week, Congress state President Luizinho Faleiro demanded an opinion poll on whether the state should continue to have casinos, saying that casinos have turned Goa into a vice capital of India.
