Casinos not welcome in India, Shipping and Transport minister says

India’s Union Minister of Shipping & Transport , Nitin Gadkari, has declared his opposition to casinos in the country, saying there are alternate ways to develop tourism, local media reports.

"We oppose things like casinos, and I will not give permission for that. People will also not tolerate such things," Gadkari said at an industry event in India. The Union shipping minister also pointed towards organisations such as Yoga guru Baba Ramdev Patanjali group, and Sri Sri Ravishankar’s ‘Art of Living’ which would open up tourism across the country. "Entertainment facilities are also welcome on the islands but definitely not casinos," Gadkari also said.

Casinos and gambling have been a controversial issue in the country, where currently only Goa, Daman and Sikkim have operational gambling establishments.
