CCC praises Imperial Pacific’s employment initiatives

Commonwealth Casino Commission officials have praised the efforts made by Imperial Pacific in hiring and training the local workforce in line with its employment plan and federal requirements, local media reports.

Last week, 15 individuals completed the Baccarat Dealer Training provided by the casino operator, and are now certified to work on the casino floor.

“We are happy to see people being trained. And that’s what we’ve been trying to impose to them, hire from the local workforce and train them. It is very hard to find dealers, especially on the island so you need to be trained if you get employed for the new casino [or] you recruit from the Philippines, Australia or other casinos in other countries,” said CCC chair Juan M. Sablan.

Juan said the training was part of the employment plan submitted by Imperial Pacific to the commission.

“They are complying with our demands. There is ongoing training all the time. IPI has already submitted an employment plan to the commission,” he said, quoted by the Saipan Tribune.

Edward Deleon Guerrero, the executive director of CCC said the training was proof of IPI’s efforts to reach out to the local community and the local workforce.

“That’s why we wanted to commend them. The 15 who finished the course are now ready and prepared to work on the casino floor. We need to reinforce the local workforce and we need to have more training for them.”

The casino operator began hiring workers for its Grand Mariana resort in August.

The casino investor aims to fill 2,500 - 3,000 positions, according to Bertha Leon Guerrero, Best Sunshine international vice president for human resources.

The resort is expected to open in the first quarter of 2017, with hotel operations to begin in mid 2017.
