Central Japan city joins IR hunt

The central Japanese city of Tokoname, located in Aichi Prefecture and host to the Chubu Centrair International Airport, is moving toward bidding for an IR license.

The Tokoname City Council adopted a resolution on Monday calling for the prefectural and city governments to cooperate in working towards a plan to attract an IR.

Tokoname City Council Chairman Kazutoshi Kawahara commented, “While an IR can be expected to contribute to the promotion of tourism, measures against gambling addiction are also necessary.”

Elements of the local business community, led by the Tokoname Chamber of Commerce, have been attempting to push this initiative forward since last December.

The forthcoming IR plan is expected to utilize the coastal area opposite the manmade island upon which sits the Chubu Centrair International Airport. This is the nation’s 8th busiest airport, having served more than 10 million passengers in 2015.
