China Embassy in Thailand warns against cross-border gambling

Chinese Embassy in Thailand issued a warning to Chinese citizens alerting them to stay away from cross-border gambling activities.

Following the call received from the Chinese citizens who traveled outside China to gamble, having lost money and their assets in gambling activities, the Chinese Embassy in Thailand has issued a warning to Chinese citizens alerting them to stay away from cross-border gambling activities.
In its communication issued by authorities, it was made clear that participating in illegal gambling is not permitted and that if any Chinese citizens are found violating the warning, will be held accountable and a criminal link will be established against such violators.
There have been instances of human trafficking where Chinese nationals fall victim to high- salaried job postings advertised and then are finally asked to work in illegal online gaming and gambling platforms.
Thailand is one rising example in the process to develop entertainment complexes along the lines of Las Vegas and Macau.
