China lottery sales increase 13.3 pct in Sept

Mainland China’s lottery sales increased by 13.3 percent year-on-year in the month of September, driven by continued growth in its sports lottery.

According to data released by the Ministry of Finance on Thursday, total lottery sales reached RMB 41.8 billion (US$6 billion) in the month.

This was driven by a 24.3 percent increase in sports lottery sales, reaching RMB 24 billion, while sales from China’s welfare lottery increased only 1.2 percent in the month, reaching RMB 17.8 billion.

China’s sports lottery sales have seen the strong performance this year, boosted by the FIFA World Cup which ran in Russia earlier this year.
