Chinese premier begins three-day visit to Macau

Chinese premier Li Keqiang has arrived in Macau on Monday to begin his three day visit.

According to the Macau government website, Premier Li is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 5th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao).

During his visit, the Premier will also meet government officials and receive briefings on several topics, including: strategies to boost the development of Macau; strategies regarding the city’s economy; progress on large-scale construction projects; and work on various aspects of government activities.

Last week, analysts noted the Chinese premier’s visit is unlikely to put a major dent in the month’s gross gambling revenue, reports the South China Morning Post.

Angela Han, a Hong Kong-based analyst from China Merchants Securities and Sophie Lin, an analyst at the ratings agency S&P Global both said the negative impact from Li’s visit is likely to be limited.

The scheduled trip will come after the key Golden Week holiday and the premier is not expected to make any major announcements that will negatively affect the market.
