Clairvest opens office in Nagasaki

The Clairvest Group of Canada has become the first international operator to open an office in Nagasaki, anticipating the establishment of an IR at the Huis Ten Bosch theme park in Sasebo city.

The opening of the office was attended by gathering of about twenty local businesspeople, hosted by Prashant Gupta, the president of Clairvest’s new Japanese subsidiary.

Clairvest has been exploring the possibility of entering the Japanese gaming market for a couple of years now, and in June of this year established Clairvest Neem Ventures in the Shinagawa Ward of Tokyo. Most of the company’s staff will continue to work out of the Tokyo office, while a single local Japanese staff member will be permanently based at the new Nagasaki office.

In a telephone interview with Asia Gaming Brief, Clairvest co-chief executive officer and managing director Jeff Parr explained that his company has been involved with 24 casinos at one point or another. He believes that a jump into the Japanese market is not an extreme one in light of the fact that Clairvest already operates the second-largest casino in the nation of Chile, in the city of Concepción, among other facilities.

Parr also explained that, aside from Nagasaki, Clairvest was also positioning itself for a bid at Tomakomai, Hokkaido. They are among the six North American operators that the recent Tomakomai official delegation met with on their tour. Clairvest Neem Ventures is now preparing to establish an office in Tomakomai as well.

While Clairvest has partnered with Rush Street Gaming of Chicago on some projects in the past—prominently The Rivers Casino near O’Hare International Airport—the two companies’ foray into the Japanese market is entirely separate from one another.

Parr says that Clairvest’s advantage lies in its track record of two decades of unbroken success in the gaming industry, and in its demonstrated ability to work in mutual benefit with its partners.
