Congress’ push for casino opinion poll a joke: BJP

Goa's ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized the opposition Congress' idea for an opinion poll on casinos in the state, terming it as a joke and stating that it was the Congress party which first brought casinos in the state in the first place, local media reports.

“Recently, Goa Congress chief Luizinho Faleiro demanded opinion poll on the issue of casinos in Goa. He wanted to know whether people want casinos or not. His statement is a big joke. If they remember, it was they who bought casinos into Goa,” BJP legislator Siddharth Kuncolienkar said in presence of state party chief Vinay Tendulkar.

“We feel that Congress should have taken an opinion poll before bringing this concept (of casinos) into the state,” Kuncolienkar added.

“They (Congress) are not at all serious. First of all they should know how to handle their own legislators, then look at state’s issues,” he said.

Last week, Congress state President Luizinho Faleiro demanded an opinion poll on whether the state should continue to have casinos.

"The time has come for an opinion poll on the issue of casinos... Casinos have made Goa into a vice capital of India," he said.
