Crimean Gaming zone seen as off limits to investors

A bid by Crimean authorities to develop a gaming zone in the region has failed to attract investor interest, a spokesperson for the Crimean Finance Ministry told local media.

By mid-January Crimean authorities had failed to receive applications from investors intending to participate in the development of the gaming zone.

But the Ministry says the plans are still at an early stage with experts currently studying projects and developing mechanisms to make way for their implementation.

In early January the Minister of Tourism and Resorts of Crimea Yelena Yurchenko said a gaming zone project would be presented at the business forum "South of Russia-2015" that was held in Yalta on Jan. 20.

But officials said the project, now in the final stage, will be presented in the near future. No reasons were given why it was not presented at the meeting on Jan. 20. The zone is expected to be launched in 2016. The issues to be dealt with include improving infrastructure to improve transport to the region.
