Australia’s Crown Resorts is planning an online bookmaking venture with BetEasy, local media reports said.
The company recently secured a new betting trademark, fuelling speculation a deal may be imminent, The Canberra Times said. The government office in charge of patents approved the Crown Bet trademark on Dec. 1st and there is now a two-week period for other companies to lodge objections, it said.
Earlier this week, BetEasy beat out larger rivals to win the contract to become the Australian Football League’s official betting partner for the next five years.
The firm paid $10 million annually for the term of the contract from the 2015 season.
Tabcorp's TAB previously held the AFL rights. BetEasy also beat out Sportsbet and William Hill Australia to the deal.
The news reports gave no further details on Crown’s planned venture with the online sports wagering company.
