Crown Resorts clears CEO Ciaran Carruthers of any law breaches, following complaint

Crown Resorts has cleared CEO Ciaran Carruthers of any law breaches, following an internal probe by the company linked to a complaint.

Back in December, The Australian Financial Review reported that Carruthers was under investigation over claims linked to Crown Melbourne, in which the executive allegedly intervened to reinstate a patron who had been removed and handed a one-year ban for bringing a minor into the gaming area.
The publication now notes that Crown’s internal review found “no regulations or laws were breached”.
But the group’s Chairman, Bill McBeath also noted that the board started a review of the company’s security policies “to ensure clearer lines of authority and accountability over operational decision-making”.
Carruthers was cleared after the Blackstone-run company hired two law firms to conduct the investigation.
A long-time gaming veteran, Carruthers was brought in by Blackstone after the New York-based equity giant made a successful bid for the company.
The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission also weighed in on the results of the enquiry, noting it was “satisfied that […] the recommendations resulting from Crown’s own investigation into the complaints were appropriate”.
The complaint comes at a time where the company is still working through its remediation efforts, following breaches found at its properties which led to the sale to Blackstone and the installation of new management.
The group is still pending the results of the VGCCC’s assessment of the company’s suitability to operate a casino in Melbourne – with results expected in April. The investigation is not linked to Carruthers’ time with the company.
