Curbs cause drop in Singapore casino visits

Measures to prevent problem gambling, such as exclusion orders and casino visit limits, together with the wearing off of the novelty factor, have resulted in the amount of levies collected from local residents falling for the last two consecutive years.  In its annual report, the Casino Regulatory Authority's chairman, Richard Magnus, stated that, 

"Since 2010, the annual and day levy purchases have, on average, dropped by 20 percent and 8 percent yearly respectively."  The report revealed that in 2010 the amount earned from local levies was $216 million, in 2011 it was $195 million and the amount fell to $174 million in 2012.  The actual number of annual and day levy passes that were bought was undisclosed.
