David Group, Neptune planning VIP room closures, job cuts

David Group and Neptune Guangdong Group, two of Macau’s biggest junket operators, are scaling down operations as the slump in VIP revenue continues, Business Daily reported, citing Lei Kuok Keong vice president of local gaming union, Forefront of Macau Gaming.

David Group is planning to close two more VIP rooms on top of the three it shut earlier this year. Workers have already been informed orally, the report said.

“It is not yet confirmed which two rooms of David Group will be shut down at the end of the month. Normally, the operators will only announce the closures in formal written form in the middle of the month if they are planning to shut down their businesses at the end of the month,” Lei told the newspaper.

Neptune Guangdong Group is planning to fire 300 of its employees, Lei said, but isn’t planning a full closure.

Meanwhile, Century VIP Club in the City of Dreams is also closing its business in the property at the end of the month, which may involve some 60 workers, Lei said.

FMG estimates that half of the city’s VIP rooms have closed since Christmas, especially the small ones, affecting some 3,000 workers in the field.
