Decision to be made soon on gaming commission, new casino policy

The appointment of a gaming commission for Goa’s casino industry and the accompanying new casino policy are now in the final stages of consideration, local media reports.

The update was given by Goa chief minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Saturday during the sidelines of a function.

"Both the issues need time and cannot be decided arbitrarily," he said.

The casino policy states that offshore casinos in the state will be shifted to a designated gaming zone within a period of four years.

It also puts a cap on licenses, limiting it to a period of 10-15 years, and also restricts locals from visiting casinos.

A Gaming Commissioner to regulate casinos would be appointed to regulate and oversee casino activities in the state.
