Delta files petition for Daman license

Delta Corp has filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court calling on the government of the Union Territory of Daman to grant the company a license to operate a casino at its five-star property in the region.

Daman Hospitality Private Ltd., a wholly owned unit of Delta, filed the writ seeking a direction that license be granted to DHPL under Section 13A of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976 to install games of electronic amusement/slot machines at The Deltin Hotel.

Delta, which operates floating casinos in Goa and has a casino in Sikkim, opened the 176-room property in March 2014 without the gaming facilities.

The granting of the license was contingent on receipt of five-star certification of the resort, which was granted in August of that year.

However, the company has still not been given the green light to open its casino facilities.

The casino was expected to be a key revenue driver for Delta and would help reshape gambling in India as the first onshore luxury IR.
