Delta’s Daman resort gets five-star status

India’s Delta Corp said that its luxury resort in Daman has been given five-star status, a prerequisite to opening the company’s first land-based casino.

The Deltin is spread over 10-acres with 176-rooms, four gourmet restaurants, three bars, 8,000 sq. feet of high-end retail space and a luxury spa.

The resort provides over 29,000 sqft MICE space capable of hosting large weddings, corporate events and conferences. The banqueting sector can cater for groups ranging from 20 to 2000 persons.

The company has previously said it expects the property to become a gaming hub for western India, giving its close proximity to major urban centres such as Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Vadodara and Ahmedabad.

The property will feature between 1,000 and 1,500 gaming positions.

The company, which has rebranded its operations as Deltin, owns three of five boats operating offshore casinos in Goa, the only place gambling is allowed in the state.

The Deltin Jaqk, formerly know as Casino Royale, was Mody’s first boat, and offers games such as flush, dana (a game of dice), andar bahar and teen patti.

The second boat, Deltin Royale, launched on 16 August last year, has replaced Kings Casino. It is the largest casino boat in India to date, with 123 tables and a total of 850 gaming positions and 250 slot machines.

The addition of the boat helped boost gaming revenue to 315.98 crore ($52.6 million) for the year ended March 2014 from 268.77 crore the year before.
