Difficult to predict GGR: Leong

Macau’s Secretary for Economy and Finance said it is difficult for the government to predict the city’s gaming revenue for the second half of 2016 given uncertainty and volatility in international markets.

Lionel Leong told reporters on Friday that the government is paying close attention to the “L-shaped” growth of the international economy and the possible continuation of such a pattern in the future.

However, Leong added that the city’s economic outlook for the second half of the year is positive, thanks to the promotion of non-gaming offerings.

Leong also added that the government is still evaluating table applications from operators who are opening new resorts, and stressed that the principles applied when dealing with applications for new-to-market gaming tables have not changed.

“...such tables must account for no more than 3 percent growth annually – measured on a compounded basis – in the total number of those gaming products in the market. The cap policy applies up to the beginning of the year 2023.”
