Donaco says border closure to curb Star Vegas visitation

Donaco International said it expects Cambodian authorities to allow its Star Vegas casino in Poipet to reopen in the next few weeks, although visitor numbers will remain low due to the closure of the border with Thailand.

Cambodia has said it will allow properties to reopen after an inspection from the Ministry of Health and the implementation of Covid-19 safety measures. That inspection is likely in a few weeks, the company said in a statement to the Australian Stock Exchange.

However, Thailand has extended its state of emergency until August 31, which is likely to affect the border reopening date.

The majority of visitors to the Star Vegas resort are Thai nationals who are not allowed to gamble at home.

“The company is optimistic that the Covid-19 situation will continue to improve in the region Star Vegas operates in and the Cambodian government’s announcement is a positive step towards the resumption of normal operations.”

Donaco also operates the Aristo International resort in northern Vietnam.
