Draft casino regulation to maintain locals ban

Draft legislation on Vietnam’s casino industry will maintain a ban on allowing locals into casinos, dashing hopes for an expansion of the sector, according to media reports. The latest version of the draft regulation still requires investors to have at least ten years experience in casino management and pledged capital of at least $4 billion, half of which is immediately disbursable. This is stricter than an earlier draft. However, the bill does relax some rules, such as the limit of a 3 percent gaming area ratio to the rest of the entertainment space, a maximum of 2,000 gambling machines and the 180 cap for the number of game tables.
