The National Green Tribunal, a special court for environmental cases, issued an interim order barring new floating casinos in the Mandovi River
and forbidding existing ones from dumping waste there. The Goa Pollution Control Board was instructed to inspect the Mandovi's floating casinos.
Separately, Yashvant Tawde, the chief officer of the Mormugao municipal council, filed a complaint with Vasco police alleging that an unknown person forged his signature on a license issued for the office of the M.V. Horseshoe floating casino. Delta Corp.'s M.V. Horseshoe, India's largest floating casino, opened in August after months of protest by opposition parties and anti-gambling campaign groups.
Delta chairman Jaydev Mody meanwhile told the Times of India that the Casino Caravela, formerly deployed in the Mandovi, will move to another Goa river, which the newspaper reported with will be in the southern part of the state. A spokesman for the state's opposition Congress party however said it would resist moves to allow "the evil of casinos to spread to other parts of the state".
