Experts reiterate the need for speedy gaming law approval

The Cambodian government needs to hasten the passage of the draft gambling law in order to keep investment flowing into the country, according to experts at the Mekong Gaming Summit.

Interviewed by Khmer Times, Asia Gaming Brief managing director Rosalind Wade said that Cambodia needs to act fast and approve the law “as soon as possible.”

“As you see now, there is a huge amount of interest in Cambodia among international operators of casinos and integrated hotels,” she stressed.

The sentiment was echoed by Ros Phirun, deputy director-general of the Ministry of Commerce’s General Department of Financial Industry, who said that faster action on the proposed law would be in the best interest of the Kingdom.

Phirun noted that the gaming industry could play a critical role in the Kingdom’s economic development.

On Tuesday, AGB reported that Phirun said he expects the draft law to be approved sometime in the middle of 2020.
