Fifth steroids detection impacts Iwate Racing

The Iwate Prefectural Horse Racing Association (Iwate Keiba) has been embarrassed yet again as on December 26 a fifth horse tested positive for the steroid boldenone, forcing yet another suspension of racing activities.

By all appearances, the authorities remain entirely at a loss about how the steroid is making its way into the horses’ systems.

Complicating the matter is that this time the racehorse concerned belongs to the Morioka Racecourse and not the Mizusawa Racecourse where the other four detections occurred.

While the fans have so far been very supportive of Iwate Keiba through its current scandal, the inability of the association to identify the culprits after months of investigation is testing the patience of both the prefectural government and the general public, and giving the general appearance of regulatory incompetence.
